Anicca, Dukka, Anatta and Netti Netti

If I could choose a profession, I would be a student of comparative religion!! 

I don't know if you're familiar with the Netti Netti aproach from hinduism.
It summarily consists in contemplating that everything is not your true self, not the ultimate reality (Brahman).
If everything is transient (anicca) how can it be the ultimate reality?!

I think Netti Netti culminates in one finding that which is eternal, true, the ultimate reality (Brahman/God).

This for me is very similar to the buddhist practice in Vipassana of contemplating dukkha, anicca, anatta.
What is the goal in this?
OK - 1st of all you find that nothing which you can observe is lasting, neither brings lasting happiness, nor is it "self". - Could we say true self??
If everything is anicca, dukkha, anatta, then what isn't?? Nirvana?! Could there be a possibility that where talking about the same things here?! Nirvana = Yoga (union) with Brahman?!

for example: "jnana yoga" versus "vipassana"

if  the terms used to try to explain how to become free of suffering differ,
but if the meditation technique is the same,

then these 2 "different" styles of spirituality, will give the same "effect" or "enlightenment"...
there is no question about this, because the meditation technique is the same. (this is just an example though, i'm not saying jnana yoga = vipassana!!!!!)

theoretically,
the kind of meditation taught in 2 different styles of buddhism may be very different,
while the kind of meditation taught in a particular style of hinduism and buddhism might be exactly the same.
 

i don't know much about vipassana, but from the little i know about it
i can definately see similarities between the meditation technique of "vipassana" and "jnana-yoga"...

i don't know enough about vipassana to really notice the differences though.

"No-Self" is "True-Self." And the greatest man is Nobody.

the Taoist teacher "lao tzu" once said:

The tao that can be described is not the eternal Tao.
The name that can be spoken is not the eternal Name.
