Need your help on understanding the issues
« on: June 26, 2020, 04:22:41 AM »
Ever since the covid-19 pandemic hit my country I started to be negative and started feeling anxious. I have started yoga, mediation that has helped me reduce my anxious feelings. I am continuing meditation but I am remembering my past negative stuff that is creating anxious feeling. Now the thoughts of covid-19 isn't terrifying.

I am practicing mindful mediation that helps to identify negative feelings and then let them go.

Just wondering is it because of the mediation that I am practicing or my situation is going worse. Need your help to understand this.

I know one of my friend said that mediation would make you cry at some point.

I have been regularly practicing meditation from a three months now. The pandemic hit my country 3 months ago.

first off, never forget to breathe. Everything that has touched our minds through ear, eye or body goes somewhere in the body.(i include the brain in the body.)Physical trauma is closer to the surface but mental trauma can be buried deep in the brain, muscle tendon bone, even eye sockets, anywhere the trauma or negative experience has been tucked away. Anxiousness is the amygdela being triggered and fight flight or freeze is brought into play. For me I have quick stress relief coping things, eg, i have to smell jasmine oil, or i think of a happy time, or a time when I coped so that when the stress bubbles come to the surface during meditation i learn how to deal with them. The brain is wired very well when we are born, it is only positive or negative experience that alters it. I would suggest looking up sarah peynton on youtube, conflict and the brain, and also emotional intelligence help guide, they will show you the significance of emotional relationships, this includes yourself by the way, through meditational practise.
The wonderful thing about nuearoscience is, in my opinion, the fact that its supporting and reaffirming everything that meditation has been doing to the mind since we seperated from the monkeys a long time ago. wiser people on this forum may have other ideas, but i thought i'd try to show you some of the fruits i have picked up and tasted on my path. Good luck and you are far from alone and you are not getting worse by posting this you are looking for a hand up as you've come to a road block and are asking for navigational bearings

Perhaps you could try relaxation meditations which are designed to de-stress you, or simple mindfulness of breathing which concentrates just on the breathing rather than being mindful of negative feelings. Sometimes you can beat yourself up when you try meditations which are too specific, and saying to yourself that you should be free of negative thoughts by now but you aren't so you must be failing in some way.

That is so, so, so true.  This is why we must always try to be grounded in the body. Everything thought is indeed felt. That is wisdom. :)
May we see the emptiness of all phenomena

Good point, Dhamma. Meditation is a practice involving the whole body, not just the mind. When I breathe I follow the breath into my body, visualising it circulating around and making me more aware of all the parts that make the whole.
