Meditation questions

Hi all, thanks for having me on this forum. Just a quick introduction, I am a beginner in meditation and practice about an hour a day. There is so much information to research that it has confused me on what I am doing, and if I am doing it correctly. I know not to judge the practice or get caught up on those thoughts, but it will be helpful to hear from others if what I am doing is on the right track because of my limited knowledge on meditation practices.

I started out with becoming aware of my breath through my nostrils and just focusing on that. My practice changed from there one day to just becoming present. I just sit still and let everything come to me without focusing on it such as sounds, thoughts, feelings, and visuals. I do not space out, I maintain a focus on the self that is observing if that makes sense. I have had some profound experiences doing this during meditation. It has also helped me learn to observe my thoughts and sensations and take a step back in life and has started to change me in day to day life. But I just have the lingering thoughts of, "am I doing this right, and is this even meditation." Also, what would this meditation be called? Thanks in advance.

It sounds fine to me, Pathly. I would call that meditation. Welcome to the forum.
