A simple trick to enhance your mindfulness

Hello Sanga,

My suggestion for enhancing your mindfulness on a day-to-day
basis is simply, to switch to using your non-dominant hand,
for one or two tasks.

If you're right handed, use your left hand.
If you're left handed, use your right hand.
If you're ambidextrous, .... err... carry on reading anyway.
For the purposes of exposition, i'll assume you're right handed.

For example...  if, when eating, you hold the fork/spoon with
your left hand (maybe slip your right hand under your right knee). 
You'll notice yourself putting your consciousness into the act of
holding the fork/spoon, you'll be aware of how the fork/spoon feels
in your hand, it's weight, the pressure you're applying to the handle. 
Your consciousness will be present 10 times more than it is when
you're eating with your right hand.  You'll be more aware of the food
in your mouth, it's texture and taste.  You'll be able to savour the
experience more readily if you simply hold the fork/spoon with your
non-dominant hand. 

Why do this ?  Because, using your left hand, pulls you out of
'auto-pilot' mode.  Skills like typing, writing, washing, paying
for items in shops, is sooo much of a automatic skill, that we
can somehow do them, and simultaneously spend time with
some favourite worries or pessimisms... or invent brand new

Other suggestions:
Pick up your coffee with your left hand;  put the money into
the machine, with your left hand; wash yourself in the shower
with your left hand (where possible);  pick up a magazine,
a novel, a report, etc with your left hand.   Write shopping
lists, with your left hand; highlight interesting ideas when
studying/reading; with your left hand.  Put your keys/money/
wallet/shopping lists in your left hand pocket(s).

That's my suggestion.  I hope you find it interesting or useful.

Good suggestion Playground. I started doing this two months ago. It definitely improves mindfulness.  I found brushing my teeth with my left (less dominant) hand is the most challenging chore. Even after two months, I still notice my right hand ready to 'takeover' any moment. Most importantly, my day starts with mindfulness and not get caught up with anxieties of the day ahead.

This practice you suggest certainly keeps me more alert for sure. Kind of fun too to notice how our past habits desperately try to takeover.

I encourage others to try it out.
