If I tell you not to think about an elephant the only thing in your mind will be an elephant.

The same is true with pain. Any attempt to hide from or reduce pain by not paying attention to it is destined to fail.

Instead be mindful of the pain. Be inquisitive. Where does this pain arise? How does this pain feel? At the same time keep breathing and calming the body. Breathe into the painful area of the body and feel how that feels. Make the pain your friend and teacher, not your enemy. It has a message for you about what you need to do.

I can't help wondering: What's causing the pain ?
Is there any of way removing, or reducing, the pain by removing:
 either
(a) _the_ cause of the pain ?
(b) _a_ cause of the pain ?


But that wasn't my first thought when i read your post.
My first thought, was that most people don't know about CBD yet.
And maybe i should make a quick post about CBD and pain-relief
for the benefit of the thread starter and anyone else who reads this.

There is abundant research now, that shows definitely, CBD acts
to mitigate pain of various types.  The reason for the analgesic effects
of CBD, is that it binds to our body's own endogenous opioid receptors.
These are the same receptors that are triggered by morphine and heroin
and other opioids.  However, unlike regular opioids, CBD isn't addictive.

Further, CBD acts to reduce depression, reduce anxiety and reduce pain.
And it's neuro-protective and neuro-restorative (eg after injury)
... and it's non-addictive.  Sounds almost too good to be true.

So where do you get CBD from ?
CBD is one of the main cannabinoids in cannabis.  There are now a variety
of 'CBD-rich' strains that have been developed from agricultural hemp
cultivars.  To be termed hemp, the strain has to have less than 0.3%
of THC (the cannabinoid that gets you high).   Note, however, that CBD
does _not_ get you high.  It's mildly stimulating, think 'cup of tea'.  But
that's all.  This means you can take CBD before driving, or whilst at work,
or whenever you like.

CBD is available as an oil, or you can smoke it (as bud or hashish).
In the UK they sell 'Charlottes' Web'  via this website, as an oil:

I'm sure a google search will turn up plenty of other places where
CBD oil is available too.
