« on: October 18, 2017, 07:37:55 AM »
In all the courses conducted in the centres  which teach .  Goenkaji' method '.  listening the taped discourse is mandatory even for the very old students who have sat in many courses , including long courses  . Why is it necessary ? can some one throw some light on this

Every time we listen to the discourses again and again, new insights seem to dawn on us. We hear things in a way we have not heard before. The discourses are not just about passing information to us, but also help uncover insights of our own about the practice as well as the path.
Let's go beyond this illusion, shall we?

a meditater who has been practicing  Vipassana meditation for many many years is firmly on the path to discover the truth for his own good . His experiences are truly his own teacher. Buddha has shown the path and one has to travel on this path all by himself. yes, if he has any difficulty help should be available to him so that he can make a course correction. Progress made by him should be judged by him on the basis of becoming a better person, getting rid of his defilements .  Compulsorily making him listen to the taped discourses is in my opinion " avoidable disraction". Serious debate should take place about this amongest old students.

i've done a couple of 10-day retreats and numerous 3-day retreats. I've found that sometimes i get disheartened when the meditation doesn't make me feel good. in that situation, i have found myself remotivated by Goenkaji's sermons. it would be dishonest of me to say that i did not get bored and tired, sometimes almost unbearably boring. but i tried to accept the boredom as another aspect of meditation.

Goenkaji's retreats are for a wide variety of people of different personalities and backgrounds. i personally find this aspect very appealing.
Mostly ignorant
