Logical? A song about conditioning.
« on: February 27, 2008, 01:00:30 PM »
I love this song. One of the Buddhas' many synonyms for what we call "enlightenment" is "beyond conditioned existence". This song is about conditioning.

in the Dhamma,

When I was young
It seemed that life was so wonderful
A miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical
And all the birds in the trees
Well they'd be singing so happily
Oh joyfully, oh playfully watching me
But then they sent me away
To teach me how to be sensible
Logical, oh responsible, practical
And they showed me a world
Where I could be so dependable
Oh clinical, oh intellectual, cynical

There are times when all the world's asleep
The questions run too deep
For such a simple man
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned
I know it sounds absurd
But please tell me who I am

I never really thought about the lyrics that much until I saw them written, very cool.
The best type of meditation is the one that you'll do

I think it goes very well with, Life and Music - Alan Watts  posted by mettajoey

Yes stefan it is Supertramp on the album "Breakfast in America". Joey, indeed when you see the lyrics written down they have a remarkable level of fusion with Buddhist understanding.
