Very good advice Mettajoey.

You are literally the center of the universe (we all are; strange scientific fact) and your mission is to understand why you are here (it only took me around 56yrs).

I am curious to know what you figured is the purpose of your life. Why are you here?
Take everything I say with a grain of salt.

Hi Middleway,
I intended to take your response and just copy it to a new thread but, oh well, sorry.

I'll reply to your query shortly.
Thanks

Ok,
Very short story is that I left the electrical industry to pursue my life-long dream of being a Tai Chi Instructor (master, if I'm being honest). To support that dream I took on massage therapy because it took the least amount of time to train and possibly make better income than teaching. I went that way mainly because I liked the working environment! That's when I truly found my niche. After spending a large chunk of my life learning and applying techniques through gymnastics and martial arts, and a love of the human body, it was like a duck to water. The response of family, friends and clients greatly reinforced that decision. Doing massage work was something I never even considered previous to that leap of faith.
I thought, taiji and massage were just quality of life practices but I what I found was doing was pain management. If I could get people moving and living again the body will heal itself.
The truth always lies deeper than the surface appearances. I truly love science and/but I've always be vested in both scientific and energetic worlds. I now truly know they are the same. My personal experiences through meditation and hands on experience with both taiji and massage have taught me that.

My purpose in life is to better understand myself, others and share the work I'm doing for the benefit of others (which ultimately ends up benefiting me).
Dr Yang Yang and I currently spend our time drawing the parallels between western thinking and science and making the mysterious arts we (members of this forum and all other practitioners) practice as common place here, as they are were they originated.
Wish me luck and thanks for asking.
Cheers!

Is this your aim/goal in life or your "purpose" in life? Would you be saddened if for some reason beyond your control (like sickness for example) makes it impossible to fulfill this goal/purpose?

I do contemplate on this once in a while to "see" what is behind this yearning to have a goal or purpose in life. Why can't we just go about in life without any expectations (of us or others)? Is it our righteous ego that is behind this "urge" to help others? Can we not help others just because we are simply capable to do so at this time and for no other reason or motivation?

I would say purpose of this life is to learn to completely stop interfering with the flow of life. To become on with the source consciousness.

Hi Sidd,
It's the question, "The purpose of your life". What is your purpose?

Here's my 2 cents on the topic...

I think your life's purpose does not matter. Does it matter you find out it's farming, engineering, drawing, what have you, or never find it out at all?
What I think does matter is what gives your life fulfilment (or rather a purpose to live for).

Maybe you spend your days pondering about the questions 'what gives me purpose', maybe that is your answer, 'contemplating/philosophizing'?
By not knowing what gives fulfilment to your life, one can even be in an advantage as this person will explorer more new and unfamiliar terrain and as such broaden his/her horizon.

Everyone has their own interests and core values, but if you can make it work so that you have a happy, energetic and serene life, I think you are on the right track.

Just like mettajoey says, his core values are to help people. It so happened to be in Tai Chi, meditation,... but it could as well be in knitting if that was a field of interest to him.
Based on what I can read, this is  reinforced by family, friends and clients telling him he does a good job at it.
That's where the energy comes from to go forward on his path, and as such he should continue.

Does this make it a life's purpose? Maybe, maybe not, but it gives mettajoey a purpose for his live and to me, that's all that matters.

Metta,

L.

I recently realized my purpose. It is to free at least a few beings from suffering before I get freed.
