The Mind Illuminated by Culadasa (John Yates, Ph.D.)
« on: February 26, 2016, 02:35:10 PM »
The  Mind Illuminated spells out the problems you'll hit, why that's fine, and then how to address them directly. It acknowledges the quality of meditation you're likely to begin with, and continues through to awakening itself via ten steps as opposed to the traditional nine. His tenth step is "establishing a practice" and is prepended to the others. It references science when it can, and is clearly aimed at the areligious. High on practicality, low on mysticism except where it necessarily applies. 504 pages.

I grabbed my copy as an eBook from Amazon for $8.49 USD. I'm not through it yet, but so far it's an inspiring and motivating read.

Also worth noting is Yates' insistence that having ADD and ADHD do not disqualify you as a meditator. So if, like me, you have one of those problems, this is the book for you. It's a very nuts n' bolts kind of text. Definitely more of a technical handbook than a collection of ruminations.

For me, this page has two formats: paperback and Kindle. There are two buttons to the immediate right of the book cover for changing between the two.

And... now the price of the eBook has apparently risen to $12.99 USD! Apologies, I didn't know it was on sale at the time; I'd edit the OP if I could.

Na doesn't work for me neither on the .com or the german site. Mh time will tell though, will get paperback if kindle ain`t gonna work in few months. :-) Kindle just seems much more convenient, with fast tracking of pages, making notes and marking stuff etc. and carrying around with your other books always, never "specifically having to put it into your bag" when away.
