Meditation alarm software - any advice please
« on: November 13, 2015, 10:33:50 AM »
Hello!

Can anyone suggest me some advanced alarm clock software. What I need.

I want to start and finish meditation not to annoying default phone signal, but to some chatting recording for example. So the software should have a function of putting any track from audio library as a signal. Second I need this software to turn on alarm several times. For example I meditate for 40 minutes, from 0 to 30 minutes I do mindfulness of breathing and from 30 to 40 I do metta for example. So I need my alarm to signal at 30 minutes (and finish signaling after few seconds, so I don't need to stand up and turn it off) first and at 40 minutes second, so I will know when to switch to metta and when to finish metta.

The software can be designed for windows or android. Iphone is also possible=)

Thanks! Will appreciate your replies

There are lots available, though they all have bells or gongs rsather than run something from an audio library.

The best I found for Android is Bodhi Timer, the best I found for Windows is Meditation Timer Lite.

Insight Timer for Android can do that, except for custom sounds.

I second insight timer. It also has a great community and lots of extras! You can get it free and pay for the premium version which is worth every penny. :)

Zazen meditation timer for Android does exactly what you want.  you can have bells go off at specific times that you want and also just checked that it allows 'custom bells' too. haha so many choices!

As others above have suggested, apps are a good option. I prefer not to have my cellphone or tablet anywhere near me during my sitting, as other notification sounds coming off the device can be distracting during the sitting. So, I use a cheap, digital alarm clock for my timed sittings. You may want to think of that option as well.
Let's go beyond this illusion, shall we?

+1 Insight Timer. Great app. Of course you can set you phone in flightmode, then there are no distracting sounds coming from it. At least with mine. Maybe you can find a fitting setting with yours too..
