how long are you present?
« on: October 24, 2008, 08:15:55 AM »
hi,

I`ve been practicing meditation for 1 month now. I notice that I`m much longer present that I`ve been some weeks ago.
But actually the altogether length of my presence is still only a few minutes each day. I wonder how long you are present and how long you have been practicing meditation.

Thank you, greets jami

Jami,

Welcome to the forums. Are you talking about being present and un-distracted in your meditation sessions or something else?

hi,

I was talking about the presence in "real life", for example when walking, cooking etc.

Meditation practice is called practice for a reason. In meditation you are cultivating states of mind and virtues that you carry into your everyday life and experience. the longer you meditate in a proper manner the more you will notice change both on and off the cushion - the more you meditate both in times of duration of sits and length of time being a meditator.

Your ability to be present with yourself on or off the cushion will cumulatively grow and with it your ability to be really present in everyday life for yourself and others.

In the Dhamma,
