Hi,
Im in my very late teens and started meditating around 2 months ago. i have meditated everyday apart from 2 days within the 2 months so its fair to say im very dedicated. I started at 5 minutes and gradually increased minute by minute per week. Im currently doing 13 minutes a day. Now, my question is, only once out of the two months, i have felt the "real deal". About 2 weeks in, i randomly felt the feeling that you cant describe. Youre in your body but your not. It felt like i was floating and looking over my body almost. Although this lasted 30 seconds or so, it has motivated me ever since...However i havent been able to reach that state or near it since. It has been 2 months and im losing my motivation. Am i doing something wrong? Am i just "trying too hard". As soon as i feel anything good i think of it and then it kicks off the chain reaction of thinking, and then it goes away :( Do i just need to give it even more time? Has this happened to anyone else previously?

The only thing i can imagine pulling me back is that i meditate different times of the day. one day i might mediate at 10am the other i might meditate 6pm, dont know if this matters or not though.

It's just a feeling, no need to try and repeat it.

What technique are you practicing?  What are you trying to achieve?  In Vipassana practice we don't try to seek or repeat pleasant or unusual feelings.

Hi kingleo,

It's very wise of you to take up meditation early in life. It will do you well. You asked:

All of these issues are addressed in the " Calm Abiding " article on the front page.

You are trying too hard, relaxation and awareness in harmony is key to good meditation. The jumping on feelings is clinging and the chain reaction of thinking conditioned habit. You can move beyond.

Kindly,

Matthew

It seems to me you're expecting a lot for having just started out. Be patient and don't place expectations on your experience. You should also set aside a specific time for your practice.

Starting to Meditate so early , how nice. You are on the right path.

"The gift of learning to meditate is the greatest gift you can give yourself in this life.
For it is only through meditation that you can undertake the journey to discover
your true nature, and so find the stability and confidence you will need to live, and
die, well. Meditation is the road to enlightenment."
