On the one hand change happens. You know there is impermanence. We change. It is real and it happens all the time: among other things our views, our habits, our preferences, etc., they are all subject to change.

On the other hand we really don't like that. We don't like the feeling of being confused or hurt when we receive information that does not accommodate with our present views, especially regarding our SELF, be it from experience or from other people. So we discard, we discount, we rationalize, we …

We defend.

We do this instinctively and automatically or reactively.

But, if we (are) change, what is there to defend?

Really, what is there to defend?

This is not intended as an intellectual exercise. I invite you to sit down and think of a situation where someone gave you feedback and you didn't like it. Maybe Quardamon's post? Then make contact with the feeling associated with the feedback, whatever it is. Let the feeling come. Allow yourself to really experience it.
