Break in Vipassana - needs help to restart the practice
« on: November 22, 2014, 03:51:32 PM »
I am old student of Vipassana meditation, but I was out of practice for last 1 year approx. Right now, I have no time to attend 10 days retreat due to professional life. I forgot the process of Vipassana meditation a bit, what can I do to resume the practice? Any advice will be appreciated.

Some suggestions:

1) If you can contact a teacher who is accessible to you, please contact and ask for guidance.
2) Get the book "Art of Living" by William Hart, which is a good primer to meditation as taught by Goenkaji.
3) If you remember Anapana, I would recommend you start doing it. You can move to Vipassana later once you have built enough Samadhi skills and/or you are able to go for a 10-day or even 3-day short course.
Let's go beyond this illusion, shall we?

I am not a student of Goenka but have recently read Marshall Glickman's book "Beyond the Breath" which has instructions of each of the stages that are apparently taught at the Goenka retreats.  Perhaps the book could serve as a reminder for you to help you to get back into the practice.

Just do anapanasati, it's easy and it will get your momentum going, once you're feeling more confident you can start thinking about broadening your practice.
