Constant sense of strain from meditating
« on: August 21, 2014, 04:34:44 AM »
Often, though not always, when I transition from meditating sporadically to a more regular schedule I notice that when not meditating I sometimes feel this constant sense of strain and tension. The best way I can think to describe this is "ngggggggg!"  sort of how I imagine a fussy baby feels. I have a sense that behind it is a desire to be meditating when going about my day-to-day business, but this may just be fabrication. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Any advice?

Sounds to me like you are aware of craving.  Having a meditation practice gives you the space to notice it, whereas going about the business of normal life usually people just react to the imulse without noticing it.

So you mean like Bhava-Tanha? Any advice on what to do about it? It seems to get worse when I direct attention to it.

It could be any kind of tanha.  If you pay attention to it grudgingly with the expectation you can make it go away then you may end up feeding it.  Use it as a learning opportunity, get interested in craving, how does it arise? how does it pass away? what feeds it? how does it affect the mind?  Don't observe it with the attitude that it's a problem to be fixed, rather it's something that needs to be understood then let go of.
