Watching with closed eyes
« on: March 18, 2014, 08:38:47 PM »
I'm not sure how to put this, a bit abstract. As I sit, after a while when I am focused, I usually can notice that "stuff" happens behind my eyelids, if I let myself go there. I am basically watching a sort of copper metallic background where spots come and go, grow, can be colorful or not, and sometimes there is nothing at all. I like watching all this, as I feel curiosity regarding it. I suppose it is not different from a candle flame, or the breath, but I'm not sure it's something I should focus on as it has an entertaining characteristic, thus distracting, kind of "wow, that's pretty".

The Copper colour is light passing through your eyelids, the stuff moving around is due to small movements of the eyes, tears and debris in the fluid of the eyes. It's pure distraction, a form of thinking that you are engaged in.

Have you tried meditating with eyes a little open looking at the floor about 1-2M in front if you? It may take away the distraction.

All right, noted. It does feel like a distraction, not like the breath that is so steady. I'm not a fan of opening my eyes, it makes it that much harder for me to focus on the breath. However, I have no problem redirecting my focus away from this eye thing, so I'll just see it as the distraction it is and not get lured by it.
Thanks!
