eyes moving...

Hi ,

im after 10 days vipassana course.... but when im paying attention to my body my eyes keep moving..Do you have any ideas how to change it? my teacher said i should open eyes and in the same time pay attention to particular part of the body and then close again and do the same with closed eyes but that doesnt help ...So my eyes hurt after meditation..

when mind strolls here and there with great frequency then eye bolls, even with close eyes, keeps on moving. with practice and gradually as concentration increases, eyes movement is ceased or decreases.

In my experience, eyes move when you think. Maybe try to feel the physical sensations of body parts.

Or you could try a kasina or trataka practice. If you're not familiar with it, this is a practice of focussing on an external object like a candle flame or a clay disc. Look up 'kasina practice' or have a read of the Vishuddhimagga here:

Take Buddaghosa with a pinch of salt though, the Suttas are much less exacting and pedantic when it comes to meditation.

In such a case, I would regularly check whether my eyes are relaxed. Just as there are periods that I regularly check if my body posture is all right.
