Thailand - forest sangha retreat
« on: January 21, 2013, 05:02:42 AM »
Hi,

I'm in Chiang Mai, Thailand atm and am debating whether to go on a 14-day retreat at Doi Suthep (i've previously been on two 14-day retreats at Chom Tong) or whether to spend 1 week+ meditating at a forest sangha centre in the north of Thailand.

Does anyone have any experience in forest meditation, or in both forest meditation and Mahasi Sayadaw-technique vipassana? Any information on what to expect, how the forest retreat differs from other experiences, etc etc (i'm not 100% sure what i'm asking or want to know yet!) would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Marko

Marko,

Please accept my apologies for not responding sooner. There is a thread here somewhere where one of our old members had described a lot about these issues and I can't find it :( ... his name is Pamojjam if you want to search ....

The tradition follows the teachings of Ajan Chah, now deceased but recognised as a master while living. Over one million people attended his funeral including the Thai Royal Family.

It can be hard to join retreats at some of their centres as there can be waiting lists.

Sorry I do not have more information.

Warmly,

Matthew
