Book Teaching Vipassana as Taught by S.N.Goenka?
« on: July 31, 2012, 10:13:58 PM »
Hi there,

I have taken 3 Goenka Vipassana retreats, the last being 5 years ago.  I stopped the practice for a while but can still remember it but I'm sure there's a few details I'm missing, especially regarding body scanning.

While I don't have the time to do another course I wondered if there is a book that outlined all the teachings that I can go over to refresh my memory?

Thanks

you can also order to purchase the set of CDs online from the same site..

to my knowledge , i dont think books have come from VRI focussing just on the technique. you could check the books section

Since you are an old student, you can go to a Goenka center (sounds like a trademark to me) and stay for a few days if you wish. You just have to call to check if there is availability.
Meditation makes me angry...

I second the recommendation of the William Hart book.  It's short, clear, cheap and authoritative in terms of U Ba Khin style.  However, it doesn't give all the ins and outs of the method - it's more an explanation of why, background and motivation.

William Hart's book is good, but it does not teach Vipassana. Nor is it a reference book. You can read it to get an introduction on what Vipassana in Sayagyi U Ba Khin's tradition is about.
Let's go beyond this illusion, shall we?

Beyond the breath by Marshall Glickman, yeah that's the best one I know of.
Goenka must have been really annoyed when that was written!  He really doesn't like the technique being taught outside a retreat.
It's a great book if you are into the Goenka Vipassana, I bought one for myself and gave one to a friend.
