Vipassana. What's it?
« on: May 15, 2012, 04:19:44 AM »
Hi!

Ok people do vipassana to become enlightened. But how it becomes you enlightened? What happens when you do vipassana? what's the result of practicing it long term?

Thanks.

Hello KasunL,

Apart from the intro that Andrew pointed out to you, you could look at the discussion we had on this forum under the title "How has meditation changed your life?" It is here: http://www.vipassanaforum.net/forum/index.php/topic,1373.50.html

(It must be weird for you that several of the contributors to that are not active on the forum any more. But I feel it still gives a good idea of what lives here.)

Kind regards,

Since there is no intellectual answer to this, only practicing will provide you with a sufficient answer.

No .. people practice mindfulness meditation as one part of the eightfold path to attain enlightenment ... vipassana is a result of good mindfulness practice.

Stefan makes an important point above. having heard a little about meditation gain the confidence (faith) to explore it for yourself. "only practicing will provide you with a sufficient answer".
