Hi Marvin,

I'm TJ, and I am also from Philippines, Manila specifically. I am happy to know that vipassana helps you a lot. Daily practice for me could be a bit challenging especially these days living in Manila.

I was wondering if you have come across S.N. Goenka in literature? I'm not sure if you're interested but the centre has a10-day meditation course taught by him in the tradition of Sayagyi U Bahkin in Cavite. It's a structured course that could help you in your vipassana meditation. You may read more literature about it. If you find this appealing and want to take the course, you may check the website dhamma.org and apply for a course. The courses are run based on donations. Food, shelter and meditation center are free of charge.

With metta,
TJ

Hello :)

I've been meditating for a few years now.. but spasmodically.
Typically i'll keep up regular practice for a few weeks or a few months
and then something will happen, work commitments, apartment
moving, running practice etc.
Some change in my regular routine means I drop consistent
meditation practice and adopt some new routine.

But... i keep coming back to it.
I have maintained my interest.

Currently i'm studying mindfulness regularly.
And this has naturally lead me to practising regularly too.

so.. hello to everyone :)

Hello to everyone.

I have been meditating for a few years, less regularly than I would like. I started with a 10 day retreat with Mr Goenka's organization in India. Then a few more 3-day retreats followed by another 10 day retreat.

Now I meditate when I get a chance, usually when I commute by train. I'm not sure I do textbook Vipassana - it's more of a hodge-podge of various things I've read - centred around watching breath, sensations and some ideas from here and there.

Hi All,

My name's John and I'm from Melbourne, Australia. I've been attracted to the teachings of the Buddha since I was a teenager (I'm 37 now), though only starting practicing vipassana in the last 2 years. I initially discovered vipassana online through IMC/Gil Fronsdal's teachings, and have since undertaken two 10 day Goenka courses.

It's great to find a forum such as this one and i look forward to learning/sharing/discussing with you all.

Peace out

Hi John,

welcome :)

Did you have a history of meditation before going on your first 10 day retreat ?...
or did you jump in at the deep end ?

Thanks Playground and Vivek.

I'd been sitting more or less daily for about 6 months before the first retreat, but would often fall asleep after about 15 minutes! So yeah, it felt like the deep end  :)

Peace out

Well...  i guess...  in our regular lives,
most of us do 30 minutes, or maybe an hour, ... or maybe 2.
So to  go from that to 10 hours a day... it's quite a leap. :)

Hello, my name is Jeff Hutchens. I am a musician and computer programmer who has sought peace of mind through meditation since childhood. Thank you for accepting me into your community. For the past year I've worked on a project of creating meditative sounds by reverse engineering the pyramids in Egypt. Through guidance of spirits and a dear friend who studied Egypt since the 90s, we produced some music that has become my life's work. Now more than ever I meditate and seek peace. Thank you for your time and acceptance.

Hi guys! My name is cmason and I'm a web / mobile developer. I've recently picked up meditation and slow working on it everyday. My job is sometimes stressful and meditation / breathing exercises have really helped me out with getting through my tasks and overall day. I like to meditate in the morning, throughout the day, and in the evenings.

Thanks for accepting me into the community! :)

Hey everyone,

I've meditated two years ago for a while and had this sudden feel of peace. I saw a white little light and it opened.
After that I had stopped meditating because I didn't believe what I saw and I became crazy. After a year and a half of recovery I started doing it again
and saw colors and people while meditating. I went to doctors (of course) and been on medication for the past two years.
I came to this forum for answers that are of spiritual meaning, since I've seen a lot of doctors already. I'll post my experiences and questions in the right thread.

I hope I can learn a lot from you.

Friendly greetings
Splinter

Hello! My name is Kevin, and I have been practicing meditation on and off for 3-4 years, as well as reading about meditation and related subjects. While I like to think I have a pretty solid understanding, I also believe that I can always learn something from someone else , an article, etc. Please feel free to message me here or privately if you want to discuss anything and/or exchange information. I love to learn and will also make myself available to help others if they wish. Nice meeting everyone.

Hi to all,

I am from Melbourne and a child of the sea as my name would suggest. Though far from new to this world I am relatively new to meditation, though to be honest, it does seem to come fairly naturally to me. It is my pleasure to become a part of your discussion group and I hope I can make some positive contributions along the way, even with my limited experience.

Hello All,

4-5 years ago I started with meditation. Back then (not that long ago) and even now, meditation is by many regarded as a rather strange thing to devote your time to.
Just to say that it is hard to find like-minded people outside of sangha's. That's one of the reasons for joining this forum.

One of the struggles I'm having at this point is being present and sitting regularly. As we live in the 21st century, a very hectic, sense-stimulating and even overwhelming time.

I find the teaching of the Gautama Buddha (sutta's) very inspiring and thought-provoking as these teaching are ~2500 years old and still bear fruits in this day and age.

May you all progress well on the path of Dhamma,

Metta,

Lex

Hi All,

I am from Malaysia and I have meditated on and off since 2015. Recently becomes more regular. Guess I would explore the forum thread first before asking any question.

Btw thanks moderator for accepting my registration.

Welcome Deeps and Chonghe to the forum. Deeps, you might want to ask the question in a new post so that we can answer. This thread is primarily for introductions.
