Yes, silence is golden.

Unless you have children. Then silence is just very suspicious.

When I started to meditate, I needed silence, every sound distracted me.
Now, when I meditate at home, I need to hear my son playing next room, otherwise I can't focus and keep thinking "what's he doing? omg what's he doing?"
