I got a leaflet in the mailbox about this film. I started watching it, but it is very long, and I have many different things demanding time at the moment. Put it this way, in the first 12 minutes, it failed to provide a hook that made me want to keep watching it.

The first section, on 'being materialist' and 'wanting money': I do agree that the conspicuous materialism of modern society is demeaning and corrupt. But then, almost anyone watching this film is bound to be in a situation of financial stress. It almost misses the point to criticize the wealthy. Surely there is a requirement for the equitable redistribution of wealth. This is called 'democratic socialism'. I am sure it is needed, but I didn't see anything new in stating that.

The next section was about 'genetic determinism'. I thought it was pretty true, I couldn't disagree with what it said. I hate genetic determinism and biological reductionism, explaining everything as genes and evolution and the rest. But again, what is this film offering to do?

What I have seen so far of this Zeitgeist movement, I am not too interesting in. I see more questions than answers. But then I only watched the first 12 minutes. Maybe it does offer some answers. I will try and find time to watch some more of it over the Easter break.

I am a bit confused. I recently asked a question about abraxas and one about zaoastrianism. I was interested about the topics and asked what people thought about it. You were first to respond

"Ego is the one in need for reading. Sit instead and observe the one needing to know all this you ask for. That is your very condition. Now calm into the body and observe it without clinging to it.
This is my advice others might have else to say

P. S. Same goes for the other thread"

I think the essence of your point applies to this post too.

In a thread about yoga that rideforever started you said...

--------
"we are not your enemies but to see that throw all those books in the garbage and be with yourself. The way i see it you are fidgeting and Calm-abiding is all you need to practice, for a year or two. Or three.

Be well.

Friendly Che"

It appears that you too are fidgeting.

Che - nother quote by you on my abraxas thread.
---------------

"This community is about supporting the ACTUAL MINDFULNESS PRACTICE and not supporting the intellectual debates etc ... Of course we can do that too but the actual practice is of great importance  there are so many distractions already in our lives so why clutter the mind even more especially while in our Sangha. Here we are practicing the same way we practice on the cushion ... being aware of the self while writing, asking, reading, responding ... being aware of the WANTING factor which is the ego's main weapon which clings to the desire and aversion  dont you see?  To be able to see this actually, not intellectually you must calm down the bodily sensations so ego runs dry  by saying dry I mean a calm body doesnt create stress hormones anymore even if the ego mind still keeps chattering  so it runs itself dry and without liquid it must dehydrate and die

Any who, practice is not just while we sit but also while we walk, talk, sleep, crap ... etc ...

Good man!

Friendly Che"

Thomas my friend if i stepped onto your toe i do apologise :)

I stand behind what Che wrote back then even though i would not take him seriously. You see his very truth is your very lie. I also find him contradicting at times. You know it is better if you quote the Buddha or Krishnamurti next time :D those lads know the thing ;)

Any one thing i didnt mention is;
One friend of mine who is into the law of attraction stuff asked me what i think about this movie and i am not sure how to answer just yet and though that my dear Sangha would help me in this :)

Thomas my friend i dont use internet anymore for more than to visit this community and read about gardening and facts about how to live a self sufficient life so to minimise my consumerist habits.
I am even considering to start a course in house building so to build my own house once we buy the land.

che.

I was out all day on my bike yesterday. Thought a couple of times that I needn't have commented about this at all. Nothing to gain by it.
