Can you let go of all those views and just turn to living simply day to day? Can you be like the dog mentioned above, that doesnt NEED buddhist views or any views other than following natural instincts? Can you?

Did The Buddha follow other peoples views? Did he chant mantras, perform rituals, read sutras? Did he do anything else but observe the self as it is living very simply in nature, with nature?

The Buddha established the monastic code, the sangha, and so on. There is definitely a 'marga', a path. There is nothing the matter with that. No, I can't be like a dog, I am human with possessions, obligations, attachments, and ego ;). It is not like Rosseau's 'the Noble Savage'. Nobody lives like that. Our life is highly structured. Buddhism is a raft, a vehicle, an antidote, a means to an end.  When I represent the Buddhist view, I try and do so with reference to the sources. I really don't mind whether or not anyone accepts it, just so long as it is represented properly. Take it or leave it, doesn't matter to me.

I did some protesting when I was younger like at the MayDay Riots ... and I remembered some legislation to break up protests of over 10 people or more - but it wasn't that one.

no probs. I marched against Vietnam and Apartheid (showing my age again). As I said, I am not an apologist for modern society. But my view is that unless we are living in some dreadful police state like Iran or Burma, we are basically responsible for ourselves 100%. And this is just as it should be, because it means we are completely free beings. What a time to be alive, really. I could kick myself for the opportunities I have missed, but at least I am learning this.

Sex with one life partner is clearly what the Buddha advocated for lay-persons, not free sex with multiple partners because it feels so good. Careful restraint in body and speech is the first step to a liberated mind. To the uninitiated it sounds like being imprisoned, but to a practitioner, commitment and taking responsibility paradoxically leads to liberation.

That is how I see it also.

... okay, I am listening ... where is the evidence ?  Some dogs recognise themselves in a mirror for instance

A dog has a self, but that's not what we humans refer to as "ego" or "mind" or all those stuff that we humans have to deal with.
Let's say: a dog cannot walk the middle way because it doesn't have all those opportunities to choose a middle way from.

Yes and I am saying where is the evidence ?  Can you bring a woofie to the witness stand and swear him in please !!

Division is what I pointing at.  Man is better than dog for instance.  Man has this, and dog doesn't.  How you know ?

It is all about division, and repression causes division ... repression of the natural urge (whatever that may be, let's not guess) ... creates 2 people inside you, one that wants it and one that doesn't.

It's really that simple.  So drop all barriers, beliefs, paths ...  I think this is important to understand.

But also refraining from indulgence can support the beginning of the journey, like shamatha(the support)/vipassana(the work).  But in the end, and as soon as possible, you drop the supports, you drop the teachings of the buddha and just see it as it is.  If you see the buddha on the path, kill him.

Anyway, I like dogs, that's really my main message !

I learn a lot from dogs, and I dig Diogenes living like them.  People, seem pretty screwed in contrast.

As Eckhart Tolle says, 'I have known 4 zen masters, all of them cats'.

No, but we can try and bring in Han Solo, he can interpret for Chewbacca, who speaks on behalf of all Wookiees.

So does Mr Solo.  :o

To be honest: I believe that dogs are aliens from Sirius. They act as if humans were the boss, so they can study us all the better. Evidence? I don't need evidence since this is not a scientific theory ...  ;)

:D Yes it looks like that. But cats are too haughty to be zen masters!  ;)

Tolle is cool!

Shame that there are only six ST-movies. They get boring after having learned them by heart.  ;)  As a family father I will give you this advice: Enjoy boredom as long as possible!  ;)  I cannot remember when I had the time to stare good solid holes into the air ...

Well, gotta log off, lunch time, feed the kids ...
