Title: Eating disorders, addictions and practicing Vipassana
Post by: Chaska on October 09, 2021, 09:48:15 PM
In 2016 when I started Vipassana I was suffering from bulimia since probably 10 years. So it’s a deep Sankara.

Right now I made tremendous change in my mind, my relationship with food and my body image.
Although I still have great attachement to my physical appearance so I am in control all the time.

Do you have any insight or recommendations regarding addiction?

Thanks a lot dear community

Are you able to explore the feelings and habits that are behind the addictions and behaviours Chaska?

These are indeed strong, yet the power usually lays in some experiences or self-worth that is impressed in early life - as you wrote these issues started when you were much younger.

Sitting with the breath we develop calm which leads to equanimity, equanimity leads to peace, and peace allows us to bring insight into arising phenomena. This insight can cut through the layers of habit in body, perception, feeling, reaction and cognition. They can allow us to bear witness to the hurt child and take away the power of addiction.

Hope that helps :)
