Hey there!

Might be a good idea to research the 'Noble Eightfold Path' ( Wiki link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noble_Eightfold_Path ).

There are many schools of thought. The order, significance and relevance of all the various values and what is deemed to be core values changes from tradition to tradition. Might be an idea to research the various buddhist traditions online yourself. See what you feel aligns with your particular preferences.

As Kapil Gupta Md says there are no prescriptions/How To for enlightenment. You can google his name and listen to the podcasts. I won't post links due to the forum policies. But A teacher can teach you the basics of how to start but once you go to the depth you have to do all on your own. Others can be inspirations for you. There words can help you sometimes. But ultimately walking the path is an individual journey.

The man of science you keep referring to knows nothing about meditation or enlightenment. The benefits they describe are a very surface-level thing. Most of the definition of the place of mindfulness is wrong. You will rarely find anywhere the correct information regarding Buddhism.

In Kapil Gupta words only thing that will get you to the other side is your own sincerity and seriousness.

Also core teachings of Buddha is Karma, rebirth, Anicca, Anatta. But knowing the definition of these words lead you nowhere.
