Vipassana Beginner,

I have changed the poll so people can tick any number of boxes because for many people there will be more than one reason that they started meditation. I hope you don't mind me doing this - I think the results might make more sense this way.

In the Dhamma,

Matthew

I always had a "crush" on the idea Mediation.
I had personal problems due to drugs, and one day in the drug site I found an article about meditation. That's where my journey begun....

I first got interested in meditation following a conversation I had with a friend during a break for lunch on the banks of a river. We were discussing Pirsig's Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance (http://virtualschool.edu/mon/Quality/PirsigZen/), amongst other things.

My first real step on the path was taken after I stopped by Samye Ling monastery while touring the Scottish Highlands; a monk (Sen) handed me a copy of Seeing the Way (http://www.zencomp.com/greatwisdom/ebud/see-way/index.htm) and told me to go read it. I did, and it travels with me still.
