There is really no "right" way to feel, the important thing is that you are following the instructions for whatever method you are using. Beware of just listening to the instructions but not actually following them... for example, if the instruction was to notice thinking as it arises and then bring the attention back to the breath, make sure you do that. Return to the breath and stay with it as best you can. Otherwise, you could get caught in that hypnotic state and not actually train the mind in concentration and awareness. Calm is good, but also alert.
