Everyone is homeless
« on: Saturday 16 April 2011, 08:11 AM »

People call me "Homeless" Kodo, but I don't take it as an insult. They call me that because I have never had a temple or a house. Everyone is homeless. It is a mistake if you think that you have a fixed home.

Yes all of us are homeless but home like personal relationships is a clinging - very necessary one for lay practitioners like us. I remember seeing two paths in front of me when I had finished my vipassana retreat - one was taking me back to my "home" and other was the path of renunciation - taking vows and leaving home.

Deep down inside me was a feeling of primal fear - I could not imagine leaving the comfort of my home and relationships and my respect of those who are able to do so went up many fold.

Home is where the heart is, and Dhamma is where my heart is. Staying in contact with the Dhamma is like coming home. It touches something in me, leaves a mark as it embraces me in its arms of security. Then, in an instant, suddenly a part of me comes alive again. Wherever I am and whatever I do, the Dhamma will be reaching out to me, drawing me back… There’s nothing like it, the taste of emptiness. Once you experience it, you are hooked for life.

Warmly,

There is no "I" to be at home or not at home and so everywhere is home and nowhere is home. On one level. On another I live at XX ZZZZ Street, London. Sati is my main home.
